What Is Overlanding?
Overlanding describes self-reliant adventure travel to remote destinations where the journey is the primary goal. Typically, but not exclusively, accommodated by mechanized off-highway capable transport (from bicycles to trucks) where the principal form of lodging is camping; often lasting for extended lengths of time (months to years) and often spanning international boundaries. While expedition is defined as a journey with a purpose, overlanding sees the journey as the purpose.

Built For Adventure
I spend my professional life traveling on airplanes, so I long ago decided that I'd rather spend my vacation time exploring by foot or car. With the hopes of reaching more interesting locations for better hiking and more unique photography opportunities, I came to the conclusion that I needed to build a vehicle that could get me comfortably to some of the more remote places our continent has to offer. After a year or two of considering the few options that were available to me, I decided in January of 2017 to stay true to my Jeep ownership history by adding a '17 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk to my garage. With great fuel economy, Jeep's legendary 4-wheel drive capabilities, and the multitude of other options this trim level came with (skid plates, panoramic sun roof, air suspension, etc) the goal is to see more dirt roads than paved ones, and to find entirely different adventures throughout North America.
So far the ownership experience has been nearly flawless, even after a myriad of installations for communications, comfort, lighting, and all sorts of other auxiliary equipment from some great US-based and global manufacturers. After two years and lots of adventures, I'm still as pleased as ever with the purchase of the '17 Trailhawk.
